THE SMALL EARTH NEPAL

Together We Stand for Sustainable Lifestyles

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) organized a three-day-visit to Bungal, Pipalkot Village Development Committee of Bajhang district, Western Nepal in August 2012, accepting the invitation of local youth group. Mr. Sudarshan Rajbhandari, Vice President and Ms. Pallavi Pandey, Program Assistant of SEN, and with two local volunteers visited six schools of the VDC where they conducted an awareness campaign promoting education for sustainable environment. During the visit, they handed over about 2000 books which they had collected from different sources including Ideal Model Schools, Shuvatara School and Room to Read, to the community schools of the VDC. The books, which were mostly text books, reference books and students’ magazines, were believed to be an additional sources for the school children. The distribution of the books helped initiate the libraries in some schools whereas other school had them added in their already existing libraries. The aim of the project is to initiate libraries in the community schools and also to aware students about various environmental issues, sensitizing them and making them knowledgeable about the present situation of the environment as well and their roles to conserve the nature.
The team also made an observation visit to the schools to understand about the present situation of those community schools and also held separate meetings with the school principals and discussed about possible collaboration to improve education system in the schools of that VDC.

As a humanitarian response to the massive earthquake that occured on 25th April 2015 with a magnitude of 7.8 Richter scale, The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) has been organizing various reliefs and rebuilding programs in affected areas mainly in Gorkha, Dhading, Lalitpur and Sindhupalchowk districts.

The earthquake affected several people including more than 8500 casualties and few hundred thousand injuries. It destructed more than five hundred houses, many schools, health posts and other public infrastructures including official buildings bridges as well as heritage sites. Many livestock and agriculture farms were badly affected too.

As an immediate relief program, SEN distributed basic needs materials to more than 500 households in most of those affected districts. The materials included tarpaulin, blankets, and rice, lentils, and torch light, biscuits, milk and health and hygiene materials like sanitary pads for women. A health camp booth was organized in Gorkha where around 100 families benefited from immediate medical service. Our colleagues from USA and India joined hands to support the earthquake victims and raised some fund for the relief materials. SEN organized a health camp on 6th June at Lakuri Bhanjyang, Lalitpur where about hundred local residents were benefited free medical service. A medical team with few doctors and medical staff from Nidan hospital and Norvic hospital had supported the camp. Here are some of the photographs from SEN relief and health camp programs. One of SEN’s efforts has been covered by CSU News.

After those relief works, now it is time to start the reconstruction and rehabilitation, and then rebuilding programs. In this connection, our organization (SEN) has developed its own working strategy particularly for this disaster. Click Here to download the framework. We will be now focusing on re-building Nepal with our small effort.
We welcome every support for this noble cause, together we stand for sustainable rebuilding.
