THE SMALL EARTH NEPAL

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), City University of Newyork (CUNY), USA, and Colorado State University (CSU), USA  jointly conducted Training on Remote Sensing and Climate Hazard Mapping under the collaborative research project Adaptation for Climate Change by Livestock Smallholders in Gandaki River Basin for the stakeholders, researchers and research grantees from 27 to 31 May 2013. Prof. Nir Krakauer of City University of Newyork (CUNY), USA, Dr. Madan Lall Shrestha, Academician, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Mr. Saraju Kumar Baidya, Deputy Director General, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) were the resource persons.

All together 16 participants from different governmental offices such as Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Department of Livestock Services (DoLS), Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) and research and education institutions such as Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) and Central Department of Environmental Science (CDES), Institute of Forestry (IoF) were benefitted by this training. The training covered portion like Satellite data (TRMM, NDVI), Extreme events (HadEX), Introduction to numerical computing using Octave, Quantifying trends (linear regression, moving average, and smoothing spline).

This collaborative research project of City University of Newyork (CUNY), USA, Colorado State University (CSU), USA, The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), Nepal aims to support rural adaptation within the context of economic diversification and broad-based empowerment targeting women and other disadvantaged sectors in Gandaki River Basin. This project has been funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Livestock-Climate Change Collaborative Research Support Program (LCC CRSP).
