\nBackground<\/strong>
\nWater is considered to be the core of sustainable development and is also one of the major sources of livelihood for many people around the world. It is a crucial need of all life, ecosystems, and human activity. Amongst the natural resources, water is the most critical. It can and should be used to promote the economic and social advancement of all peoples of the globe. Therefore, the national and local level initiatives, which encourage the water policy, water resources management, and scientific communities to work together, are essential for sustainable water resources management. As actions are needed from all communities to respond to risks associated with water quality, water scarcity and water induced disasters, United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992 recommended celebrating the day as an international day for freshwater and 22 March 1993 was designated as the first World Water Day. The theme as designated by UN Water for World Water Day 2016 is \u2018Water and Jobs\u2019.
\nIn line with the World Water Day, in Nepal the day is celebrated with a weeklong activity under a national level network of Nepal National Water Week (NNWW), which incorporates various government agencies, I\/NGOs, academic institutions, and private sectors working in water sector under the coordination of Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS), Government of Nepal.
\nAs in the previous year, World Water Day in Nepal is being celebrated with various programs. On this occasion, the organizing committee of NNWW 2016 announces \u2018Photography Competition\u2019 \u2018Photostory Competition\u2019 and Videography Competition\u2019 among the professional and amateur photographers and videographers. The common theme of the photography, photostory and videography competition is \u2018Water for Livelihood\u2019. The NNWW 2016 organizing committee invites photographers and videographers to submit their photos\/videos relevant to the theme.

\nWhat are the categories of the competition?<\/strong>
\nThere are 3 categories of the competition
\na) Photography Competition
\nb) Photostory Competition
\nc) Videography Competition
\nWho can participate?<\/strong>
\n– Any professional or amateur photographer\/videographer, media practitioners or students of all ages can participate in the competition.
\nWho cannot participate?<\/strong>
\n– Any submission from current affiliates of The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), staff and members cannot participate in the competition.
\nCan a foreign national participate in the competition?<\/strong>
\n– Foreign nationals cannot participate in the competition. However, we welcome their submission which, if found matched to the theme of the competition, will be shared on the social networking sites of the Nepal National Water Week.
\nWhat is the geographical limitation for the photographs?<\/strong>
\n– All the photographs\/videographs must be taken within Nepal. Any submissions taken outside Nepal will not be eligible for the competition.

\n– You are required to mention which category you are applying for in the subject line of your email.

\nCompetition starts on 15 February 2016 to 14 March 2016 (1700 NST)
\nWhat is the copyright issue of the submissions?<\/strong>
\n– Photographs, photostories and videographs must be the original works of the photographers.
\n– Photographer will be responsible if s\/he is found using photographs taken by others.
\n– Organizers will have the rights of using the submitted photographs for any kind of non-profit making activities with full acknowledgement to the photographer.
\nCan a person make submission under all categories?<\/strong>
\n– Yes, a person can participate in the competition under all categories. However, a person can submit maximum of 2 submissions under single categories.
\nCan I submit the photographs that are already submitted in other photography competition?<\/strong>
\nAny photographs or videos that are already submitted in any photography competition and received any kind of awards cannot be submitted in this competition. Also, any photographs published on any print or online media are not accepted. Photographers will be responsible for if s\/he found violating the rule. However, any photographs that were submitted to other competition but have not received any awards are accepted in this competition. Also, photographs shared on the personal social networking sites of the photographer can be accepted for this competition.
\nWhat are the guidelines for the captions of the photographs, photo story, and videos?<\/strong>
\n– Photo captions for photographs cannot be more than 30 words. Also, mention the place of photo taken and date\/year when you took the photo.
\n– For the photo story, you can make photo story of 2 photographs (minimum) to 5 photographs (maximum) with a story that should match the theme of the competition and deliver the message\/actions\/series of activities of the photos in the photo story. Word limit for the story is 100 words maximum.
\n– For the Videos, you can submit any raw videos or edited videos that should match the theme of the competition. The duration of the videos should not exceed two minute. To submit the videos, you can either use some file sharing applications or if your video size is higher and getting trouble to attach to the email, you can also visit the office of The Small Earth Nepal, if practicable for you, to leave the video file. \nWhat will happen with the photographs or videos after submission?<\/strong>
\nAfter we receive your photos or videos they will be screened if they are appropriate to share with the public. Then the photos and videos will be uploaded and shared on the Facebook page of the Nepal National Water Week and Youtube page respectively for the public views and educational purpose. The submitted photos and videos will be then sent to the team of jury for their marking.
\nHow is the winner selected?<\/strong>
\nWinner of the competition will be selected through an independent selection team of the expert on the relevant field. The likes, comments on your photos or videos on the Facebook and Youtube page will not influence the jury for selecting the winner. Sharing your works on the social networking sites is purely to give wider exposure to your works and public education\/awareness.
\nWhat is the award for winner?<\/strong>
\nThere is one award for each category of the competition. The award comprises of NPR 10000\/- and appreciation letter. Also, top 10 photographs, and top 5 photo story will be printed and displayed in other functions of the NNWW 2016 where there is higher number of gathering. Similarly, top 3 videos will be screened on the closing ceremony of the NNWW 2016.
