Celebrated ‘World Wetlands Day 2023’ at Nagdaha, Lalitpur

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) celebrated World Wetlands Day at Nagdaha, Lalitpur in collaboration with Wetlands for Nepal (WfN), Sustainability and Environmental Studies Endeavor (SENSE), Nature Conservation and Research Hub (NCRH), Nagdaha United Club (NUC), and Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN). The event was conducted as part of the ongoing project “Floating Treatment Wetland System (FTWS) – Sustainable green technology to remediate the polluted surface water bodies‘ funded by Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) implemented by SEN. The program communicated nature-based solutions for the conservation and restoration of Nagdaha.  Total of 41 individuals (50% female) from scholars, researchers, local stakeholders, students and conservationists attended the program. WfN discussed sediment retention systems to place around the Nagdaha to mitigate the problem of sedimentation coming from construction activities. SEN shared lake water purification measures through FTWS rafts they installed in the lake. BCN emphasized that the restoration measures to be sustainable and environmentally friendly. Mr. John Hummel (Director, Global Academy of Tourism and Hospitality college) recommended developing ecotourism  in Nagdaha through the 5D ecotourism approach (Discovery, Dream, Direction, Design and Delivery). Mr. Dinesh Jung Pandey (Chairperson of Ward 24, Lalitpur Metropolitan City) concluded the session with his remarks on the efforts of he plans to make for the preservation and tourism promotion of Nagdaha. In addition, Ms. Jamuna Adhikari (Chairperson, Narasthan Krisak Samuha) gave a demonstration of preparing biopesticide from the invasive plants of the lake.
