SEN at Ninth National Conference on Science and Technology

Nepal Academy of Science and Technology
(NAST) organized the 9th national conference on science and technology from June 26 – 28, 2022 in Lalitpur, Nepal with a motive to promote science and technology in the country and to advance technological modernization, preserve indigenous practices and promote research in science and technology. Ms. Ayaswori Byanju and Mr. Crish Basnet from The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) participated and presented their research work under the Floating Wetland Treatment System (FTWS) project supported by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) at the Conference at the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) hall at Lalitpur, Nepal. SEN is leading the project in collaboration with the University of Dhaka (DU), Bangladesh,  Central University of Rajasthan (CURAJ), India, University of Yamanashi (UY), Japan, Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board (KVWSMB), Nepal,  Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, and University of Rhode Island (URI), USA.

 

The presentation focused on the innovative research work on the microcosm setup of the Floating Treatment Wetland System installed at the premises of the KVWSMB at Lalitpur, Nepal. The remediation of polluted water from the Nagdaha in Lalitpur through the use of a floating raft inserted with the selected plants. The FTWS can be introduced as a cost-effective technology at the community level to clean polluted water of different water bodies in order to reduce eutrophication. The presentation included the procedure and preliminary results of the water quality analysis of the microcosm experiment. 

 

The conference was attended by international and national guests, scientists, university professors, and graduates who were working in the field of climate, hydrology, ecology, and social sciences. The conference is organized every four years to promote and bridge scientific knowledge to society.
